Insert Molding Products

Expert Insert Molding

Insert molding is a versatile manufacturing technique that allows for the seamless integration of plastic and metal components into a single, high-performance part. At Ichiplas, we've honed our expertise in this specialized process, delivering customized solutions for a wide range of industries.

What is Insert Molding?

Insert molding involves injecting plastic around a pre-placed insert, which can be made from a variety of materials, including plastic or metal. This process creates a strong, permanent bond between the materials, resulting in a single, integrated part.

The insert can range from a simple threaded insert or metal rod to more complex components like batteries, motors, or electronics. By combining these elements during the molding process, insert molding eliminates the need for secondary assembly steps, streamlining production and enhancing the overall product design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your minimum order quantity for injection molded parts?

We don't enforce a rigid minimum order quantity. We handle projects ranging from hundreds of prototype parts to millions of production units annually. The economics of injection molding favour larger runs (since the mold cost is amortised across more parts), but we work with startups and established companies alike to find the right production volume for each project stage.

What plastic materials do you work with?

We work with a broad range of thermoplastics including PC, PC/ABS, ABS, PP, PS, HDPE, POM, PBT, Nylon (PA6/PA66), TPE, TPU, and TPV. We also process specialty engineering resins on request. Our engineering team can help you select the optimal material for your application — see our material selection guide for an interactive tool.

What tolerances can you achieve?

With our CNC-equipped mid-tier tool shop, we routinely achieve tolerances of ±0.02 to ±0.05 mm for production molds. For advanced applications requiring tighter tolerances (±0.01 mm or below), our engineering team manages the process through specialist partners with 5-axis CNC and precision grinding capabilities.

Can you produce cosmetic parts for consumer electronics?

Yes — consumer electronics enclosures, display bezels, and device housings are among our core applications.

What machine tonnage range do you operate?

Our facility operates injection molding machines from 50 to 360 tonnes clamping force, covering parts from small connectors and buttons up to large housings and enclosures. For parts requiring higher tonnage, we work with qualified partners in our production network.

How do I evaluate an injection molding supplier in Malaysia?

Key questions to ask: Do they perform mold flow analysis? Do they provide dimensional inspection reports with T1 samples? Do they have experience with your industry and material? For a deeper guide, read our tooling article series which explains what equipment and processes to look for at each tier.
